The Acropolis is a hill at the centre of the city of Athens.  Ancient Greek civilisations built many important temples on the Acropolis, including the Parthenon.

Many years after its construction, the Parthenon was converted to a church, and later a mosque.  It was severely damaged in war, and over the course of time, stripped of many of its features.

The Parthenon was built between 447 and 438 BC.  It was a temple dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena and also acted a treasury.
